About the author
Several years ago, while researching World War II in his capacity as a UK secondary school teacher, Stephen Uzzell stumbled upon the name Haim Michael Klar, a Jewish man who impersonated a Nazi officer in order to help those trapped in the ghettos and concentration camps. The survivors that Haim Michael helped to save have given testimonies to the Association of Descendants of The Shoah, based in Illinois, USA. These words were all that remained of Haim Michael’s extraordinary legacy.
Stephen was so enthralled by what he’d read that he first set out to write Haim Michael’s biography. Unfortunately a lack of sources slowed progress, and the project was shelved. But Haim Michael’s story could not be so easily forgotten. The novel I Am Juden was conceived in 2014, with the character Jozef Siegler standing as a tribute to this unsung hero.
Published to acclaim in January 2019, I Am Juden has climbed to Amazon UK #1 in War & Peace, #1 in Teen & Young Adult Holocaust Historical Fiction & #1 in Inspirational Religious Fiction and has sold many thousand copies.
I Am Juden has garnered rave notices from publications such as the San Francisco Review of Books and was awarded the coveted Reader’s Favourites silver medal.
Stephen has since published a sequel, following Jozef Siegler’s daughter to New York in the 1960s, The Ballad of Liberty Siegler.
Stephen has returned to WW2 once again with his eagerly awaited novel A Night at the Constantino, to be published later this year.
Stephen regularly tweets about this era, and loves to hear from readers.
